Proyekto Pilipino ep. 66: The Concept of Heroism

“Kapag ikaw ay hindi masaya sa kasalukuyang demokratikong proseso, demokratikong mithiin… hindi maiwasan na tangkain mo na banggain din ‘yung memorya o ‘yung legacy ng mga simbolo, ‘yung mga personalities.”

In today’s episode, the concept of heroism, specifically through former senator Ninoy Aquino’s life, was examined. In the country’s current political climate, many are now contradicting his value and contributions as a hero. How does his family name affect his heroism? A hero is also said to be a political actor because of his influence and ability to cause collective action in society.

Carlo Santiago, Leloy Claudio, Manuel L. Quezon III, and Prof. Arj Aguirre discussed our heroes, more particularly the events circling around Ninoy Aquino’s heroism and what he was willing to sacrifice for our country. Our guests also explored the connection between history, heroism, and politics and urged the audience to think of the timeless values our heroes, especially Aquino, have as heroes.
