President’s husband departs

Details are conflicting and sketchy, but reporters are apparently scrambling over the departure of the President’s husband at 5:55 pm tonight aboard CX 918 bound for Hong Kong: he was the last to board.

The first information began being circulated at around 3:45 pm today that the President’s husband, together with businessmen Ricky Razon, and Endika Aboitiz were going to leave tonight for Europe, to (allegedly) make sure they’re scarce before tomorrow’s Blue Ribbon Committee hearing at the Senate on the ZTE deal.

Another version had it that Panfilo Lacson believed it would be businessman Bomboy Araneta accompanying the President’s husband, and not Ricky Razon, and that they would depart tomorrow at 5 pm.

This, after Joey de Venecia had announced he intended to name someone big, as a participant in meetings at Wack-Wack golf club in which Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos was discussing the ZTE deal. Scuttlebutt was rife that the name that would be revealed was the President’s brother, Diosdado Macapagal, Jr. As noted in the link above, de Venecia III categorically stated he wasn’t alluding to DM Jr.

The departure of the President’s husband could have a simple explanation: a medical check up in California. But since timing is everything, and up to this point, all the news has been how “miraculous” the recovery of the President’s husband has been, the unannounced departure has tongues wagging. Not least because Jarius Bondoc has been directly suggesting presidential involvement in the controversial deal.

Update: Confirmed, 6:44 pm: Mike Arroyo slips out on eve of Senate ZTE probe.

  1. it’s things like this that really troll for attention. let’s not feed it.

until it smells real fishy i suppose.

  2. As it says in Proverbs, “The wicked flee when no man pursueth; but the righteous are bold as a lion.”

  3. why do people always buy it when people like joey de venecia say that they are doing it all for the country? this isn’t a case of some small cog in the machine suddenly getting outraged enough to call the whole machine corrupt; joey is a big player too, and all he’s really doing is calling the kettle black. and he’s doing it so he can get the contract once the competition has fallen and the public is lost in the euphoria of yet another manufactured victory; Kinda like those staged raids of brothels.

more to the point, he’s doing it for his dad. can you imagine the political currency jdv will gain by being the daddy of joey the giant killer? that’ll be the boost jdv needs to mount a creditable run at the presidency.

having said all that, what i really want is for this father and son tandem to be seen for what they really are: political carnivores; and the vaudeville act they’re putting on now, a well-timed act of political maneuvering.they may be on the right side of things now, but they’re no heroes and they’ll screw us too once they get the chance.

beyond that, i say feed all the scheming bastards to the dogs.

  4. Nah! MBW the Big Guy just going to explore more business opportunities, maybe more deals with the Chinese. Seems that he was left out in the NBN deal during his long illness, now that he is fit to travel, time to “let’s make a deal”, only three more years to go, too short, everybody watching…

  5. Rom, if you do a little blog-hopping (particularly schumey, ellentordesillas & manila-bay-watch), you’ll see that others’ perceptions of Joey de Venecia are more or less in line with yours. We’re less naive than you think, but we have to give credit where it is due.

  6. rom, it would indeed be a great error to think jdv3 is a saint. he’s just pissed off. but i also think it’s overstating it to think jdvjr and jdv3 are in tandem, by all accounts the son is driving the dad batty with worry. jdvjr did not want the grudge match going public.

  7. cvj:present company always excepted;

mlq3:ah, but the ‘accounts’ are basically what they want the press to see. the father going bonkers with worry, the son, soldiering on nevertheless – fighting the good fight. as far as father-son relationships go, it’s even better than the real thing. forgive me, uncle, but there’s too much drama being played out in the press for the whole thing to be believable. apologies too to shakes, but methinks that jdv doth protesteth too much.

it’s a father and son act, alright, stemming from the insult both received at the hands of … well, let joey tell it tomorrow.

  8. which is why i see it all too hypocritical when jr cries foul when in fact both of them, him and abalos, are both be disqualified to bid/assist bidders in any way for the project.

as J. Stewart said: my God, it’s a wormhole! we’re screwed if it’s Abalos who facilitated it, and we’re screwed if jr. wins it. mini-me!

  9. from the get-go joey never struck me as credible to begin with… the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree as they say. in the run-up to 2010, it wouldn’t be surprising for the devenecias to pull off some scheme to get themselves in good with the people.

  10. “why do people always buy it when people like joey de venecia say that they are doing it all for the country? this isn’t a case of some small cog in the machine suddenly getting outraged enough to call the whole machine corrupt; joey is a big player too, and all he’s really doing is calling the kettle black.”

oh but didn’t we easily buy chavit’s allegation against erap hook, line and sinker? and now that the tide is against dambo (the dambuhalang flying pig), you start casting cloud over the credibility of one of black kettle gang members. hey, how does the saying go again: “it takes one to know one.” or is it, “when there’s smoke coming from the kettle, there’s fire?”

let them both roast in their own created fire pit.

  11. The Pidal Family motto is now:”Il faut battre le fer pendant qu’il est chaud.”

Strike while the iron is hot!3 more years for more plunder.Let’s beat the Marcos’ world record for kleptocracy!

  12. JdV Sr. is self-designated self-appointed exclusive sole broker for Chinese investments in RP. Abalos dared poach in his exclusive territory with nary any courtesy of an acceptable portion of the commission!

    Go get him son!

    Don’t over do it son!!

Hold it son!!! Hold it!! Keep your mouthg shut!!!

You’ll hurt yourself and me too as collateral damage!!!

You sob dumbo! I’ll disown you if you disobey me!!!!

  13. Warning to the PIDALs!!!

UNITED NATIONS – The World Bank and United Nations on Monday threw their backing behind developing nations seeking to recover assets pilfered by corrupt leaders, unveiling a scheme to lend muscle to their claims.

“There should be no safe haven for those who steal from the poor,” World Bank chief Robert Zoellick said, adding the Stolen Asset Recovery (StAR) Initiative was a warning to corrupt leaders “that they will not escape the law.”

The World Bank estimates the global flow of illegal funds from crime, corruption and tax evasion at more than a thousand billion dollars each year, with billions squirreled away in secret bank accounts.

  14. whee… the World Bank. only reason it’s interested in pilfered funds is because it lent its funds to the legitimate governments of the countries involved. it would be in in the WB’s best interest to recover such funds, so they will be paid back… if not in full, at least in interest.

  15. Is there a conjugal connivance in The China Deals?

Or has the husband gone solo without the wife knowing it? Is the FG going solo running away from the expose? Did the wife say,”Go, get lost for a while”?

Something bigger is underneath the ZTE scandal.

Cover-up operations must be in high gear now.

Now is the time for a good wiretapper to answer to the call of his motherland.

Get Doble off that senate hearing. We have an emergency situation here. Prorities have shifted. We need him to get an intel-team, setup the system. Quick.

  16. MARCOS time:
“The Philippines is a nation of 40 million cowards and one son of a bitch. by unnamed ranking cabinet member of the Reagan administration”

    PIDAL time:
“the Philippines is a nation of 85 million God-fearing people and A little bitch who will certainly go to hell and meet Marcos”

  17. i may not like joey de venecia’s comb-over or his hypocritical “i’m-doing-this-for-love-of-country” shtick, but i’ve got to admit he tells a pretty compelling story.

  18. MARCOS time:
“The Philippines is a nation of 40 million cowards and one son of a bitch”… by unnamed ranking cabinet member of the Reagan administration”

    PIDAL time:
“the Philippines is a a nation of 85 million God-fearing people and a little bitch and her fat bully who will certainly go to hell and meet Marcos”

  19. “The Philippines is a nation of 40 million cowards and one son of a bitch”

sabi nila si Geoge Schultz daw

    others say its a senator

    Fit to travel na ba?

rememeber what happenened to norbertyo Gonzales during or before the start of EO464, tumaas ang preyon, pano pa kaya si fatman.

Med cert o excuse slip lang naman ang katapat nyan kailangan pang umalis.

O maybe he is already fit to play golf..kung si Enrique Razon at Aboitiz ang kasama nya.

  20. father and son….hmmm

scenario:jdv gets kicked out of congress and promises that he shall return?.then makes makaawa to the people.

  21. strange, i’ve posted this earlier but disappeared (again).

mike arroyo has to leave to avoid the heat. otherwise, with his fragile health, he will die prematurely once he gets summons from the senate.

  22. There comes a point in one’s life to do one last good thing, maybe that is what the young DeVenecia doing as compared to Chairman Abalos, as per Devenecia’s claim among others. Asking him to back up and give him his Last Hurrah, meaning winning the contract for himself or going into a Broadband Business after retiring from Comelec, not a good last hurrah if we believe the words of the Young Devenecia. as for the old Devenecia, I don’t think he’ll ever think of doing one last good thing, but you’ll never know, everyone is capable of change, even the Philippines Politicians… from bad to good…

  23. Perhaps JDV the Speaker is no longer afraid of the first couple?

The attempt to replace JDV as Speaker of the House; could it be related to what is unravelling now?

  24. tagacotta, how can you forget in your ‘census’ the grand mandarambong who is still being called “president” by some out-of-touch senators, among others.

  25. “tagacotta, how can you forget in your ‘census’ the grand mandarambong who is still being called “president” by some out-of-touch senators, among others.”

he may be guilty of plunder, but one thing is certain: he did not steal the presidency.
