Thanks, Mr. Manolo for reading my views on the 2004 "Hello Garci" presidential electoral fraud which I posted in Sobriety for the Philippines (http://forthephilippines.blogspot.com).

Re "Thank God for cable?", I think the TV5 thing is a good development in terms of a stronger (and more journalistically objective) alternative to ABS-CBN and GMA. Actually, in our household, I have drastically limited my family's viewing of those greedy and far-from-truthful networks.

technically speaking, i am not a web content provider for the OP(Office of the President).. web content come from an assortment of offices under the Office of the President and coursed through the OPS.. although im a writer, i dont write for purposes of web content..

@blogs
blogs are something of a new thing not just for a government office like ours but for the general Filipino public as well.. i dont think there is any policy regarding the treatment of blogs in the filipino web community, if there is, i am not aware of it and it has not reached me..

when damaging/inspiring articles appear on emails, blogs, or from general media, people from the office of the executive secretary or whatever office concerned sometimes rebut or explain through internal email.. sometimes leaflets are handed out.. sometimes, each head of office will say something about it come flag raising ceremony.. nothing out of the ordinary..

"as to blogs and comment threads, sa ngayon mas malakas reach ng am radio at tv ;binabasa naman ang mga phone in at pinapakinggan din, pati text messages binabasa." -kg

I agree with your observation. Mainstream media still dominate the attention of the Filipino people, especially the C,D, and E markets. See the resilience of AM radio stations and tabloids in the local dialects.

I'm curious though if government is monitoring what's being blogged and commented, at least in the bigger audience sites like mlq3's, ET's, etc.

I surmise GOP is monitoring what's being entered about the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and similar high profile Filipino personas in Wiki and other online info services.

Say what Mr. Liam Tinio?

Peace Education

For this reason, global education should be a part or a mandate of schools in the Philippines. It is imperative that global education be included in the Philippine social studies curriculum. The country presently continues to be colonized by multi-national corporations through globalization. In fact, the Philippines has been subjected to the IMF and the World Bank's Structural Adjustment Program for more than three decades now. Hopefully it is covered in the higher grades, although it is not to say that primary children are not capable of understanding the concept. Its inclusion, as early as the primary years, may be a more effective tool in developing democratic citizens.

Peace education should be designed around global issues, studies that address the problems brought about by globalization, a more holistic approach to themes related to environmental care, cultural solidarity, human rights and social justice. By introducing global perspectives through issues-centred methods, students become critical thinkers. They are better prepared to deal with changes and are empowered to take their place in a dynamic interconnected world.

it makes me wonder whether the state has a hidden agenda to encourage globalization and to silence communication around its effects. Avoidance of the issues is tantamount to encouraging and condoning the ills of globalization.

"<i>One journalist blog is one sided. She created an audience of angry people towards Gloria. Her blog is very negative.</i>"

That journalist didn't "create an audience of angry people". Gloria did. "Negative" depends on which side of the equation you belong.

I hope they lock up Lauro Baja (along with the other gov't officials who maltreat their household help) and throw away the key.

Nakakainis, these are the very same people who are supposed to help protect the welfare of OFWs and yet they are the first law breakers.

out of topic:Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Philippines to the United Nations
http://www.un.int/philippines/statements/20080402.htm
1. In 2006, the poverty situation of the country worsened as the number of poor Filipinos increased based on the latest poverty estimates released by the Philippines ’ National Statistical Coordination Board. The inability to meet the most basic needs are attributable to increasing prices, as well as to insufficient rise in personal income. External factors such as higher oil prices, enforcement of the expanded value added tax (EVAT) in November 2005, and imposition of higher VAT rate in February 2006 also added to the burden of the poor

2.The spending for social services decreased from 24 percent in 2006 to 22 percent in 2007. With the decreasing trend in expenditures for social services, real capita spending on health, education, social security, welfare and employment and housing went down.

Overambitious Filipino?
'The feeling is that they've been overambitious,'' said Jun Trinidad, an economist with Salomon Smith Barney in Manila. Yet Mrs. Arroyo's government reiterated its promise today, adding that the fight against terrorism and corruption would force it to go even deeper into the red in 2003, although it would result in a lower deficit relative to the growing economy.
