Signature rodeo underway

What is wrong with the title of this story: Cardinal Rosales to get Red Hat in Vatican rites. Give up? The fact that until he receives the red hat, Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales isn’t a Cardinal yet. Since Cardinals are created, the moment of creation is when the Pope hands the red Cardinal’s hat to the person made a Cardinal at that moment.

Whispers in the Loggia is the premier blog for all things Vatican-related: the Pope’s gathering with existing Cardinals here and here, and the finery that Cardinals get to wear. A great blog on ecclesiastical costumes is Dappled Photos.

In today’s news, as reported in this blog the other day, it’s pretty much official: Charter change process gets going Saturday (Inquirer) Signature drive gets under way (Manila Standard-Today). The Inquirer story has provincial officials and a party-list representative saying government’s behind the move; the Standard-Today story suggests there is a civil society face to the effort. A sample of the Palace spin: ‘RP to earn as much as P10B under parliamentary system’: as a friend put it, “what a pandering puppy of positivism!” Bangketa Republique blogs about how the report’s ruining the weekend for some people.

The Inquirer editorial says we may be seeing an end to what the President called a “great debate.”

Cops slam CHR report: last night’s news had the Secretary of the Interior and Local Governments clad in combat fatigues (looking like he misplaced his glasses along the way) growling that civilians are unqualified to judge the military: he forgets he heads a civilian police force, and that he no longer works for Ferdinand Marcos. Like it or not, until he accomplishes the scrapping of the present Constitution, the Commission on Human Rights has a mandate to interfere -the only problem being it seems to interfere too little and too slowly.

Palace balks at criticisms over order to regulate state ads. Of course. Many smaller papers, though, are kept alive mainly by government ads. Therefore, creating, in a sense, a government ad placement authority is a strategically clever move, and is quite politically useful. Such a move is not a blow to press freedom; but it is an enhancement of government’s financial clout with the media.

In the blogosphere, Philippine Commentary takes a potshot at Juan Mercado and tackles last night’s interview of Bong Austero on Ricky Carandang’s show. I found the interview very engaging. Austero clarified what he felt were misunderstandings about his open letter, emphasizing that it was written in response to a particular set of events. His biggest condemnation is reserved for coup-plotting and extraconstitutional efforts. Efforts to either convince the President to step down or to remove her by impeachment are OK with him. He also clarified that by no stretch of the imagination can he be considered an apologist, supporter, or defender of the President, but that until a credible replacement can be found, and those opposed to the President publicly commit to sticking to purely Constitutional means, he will remain skeptical of efforts to oppose her. He also suggested that the President shouldn’t be the sole target, and that a broader opposition not just to her, but to her entire apparatus, would add credibility to those opposed to her (as would a concerted opposition to the usual suspects like the Marcoses and Estradas). Austero said his support for the President is conditional and temporary, or words to that effect. It will be interesting to see how the administration hostility towards its opponents, and critics, and even the way Austero himself was a bit miffed by his letter being used for government propaganda, will affect his stand; the clincher, to my mind, though, will be how Constitutional change is handled. Since my view (extremist even for many already opposed to the President) is that the President has no option to be president-for-life, I think events will bear out my point of view, and those giving the President the benefit of the doubt will eventually come around to realizing she has to be opposed.

  1. The filing of citizen’s case against Garcillano is very much welcome for falsification of public document.

  2. There is no question now that Gloria has unmasked herself to be one incorrigible anti-democratic persona whose only consuming blatant appetite is naked POWER (wasting democracy and all democratic principles wih abandon). Where before (circa 1992-2003) she wore two faces to fool and lull her supporters and allies, she has now decided (after repressing and silencing her former moral supporters who have broken away from her) to shed off her fake face and show her true nature – a wicked woman she has always been, the opposite of her democratic amiable father. Her latest barangay blitz initiative, thru her unscrupulous scheming DILG Secretary Puno, to exploit the people’s naivety and lack of information/education to force CHA CHA without educated democratic debate is reminiscent of Marcosian tactics. But unlike Marcos who did his barangay initiative under a cloud of Martial Law, Gloria is doing her version sans Martial Law, but thru the spectre of a lifted State of National Emergency, and exploiting the general state of illiteracy and apathy of the people. Gloria is shamelessly bolder than Marcos in destroying Democracy. She knows the Filipino people’s general state of illiteracy at present and instead of uplifting the sorry state of the people as any honest and moral democratic leader would do, she exploits the same thru the help of her collaborators (the “anti-democratic” selfish Lakas party and her loyal cadres, Jose Pidal, Defensor, Ermita, Bunye, 2 Gonzales, Puno, Garci, de Venecia, Pichay, Supreme Court justices, prosecutors, Mayors, governors) to drive the nation away from democracy.

Democracy’s final death knell (the first tolled when Gloria was sworn to office by Davide in 2001 and against all Constitutional principles, “consitutionalized” the power change as consitutional instead of calling a spade a spade) tolled when Gloria was able to do away with the greatest crime anyone can commit against Democracy – to sham the ballots and steal the people’s electoral mandate just so FPJ, an actor like Estrada, would not get elected as president (looking back, many sadly shared this aspiration rather then see FPJ become president.) That’s how democracy was sold to the devil, because propaganda and fear magnified that the deep blue sea is worse than the devil.

Let Gloria supporters now rejoice for their momentary victory! Let them wallow in exploting the Filipinos’ apathy and ignorance in democracy (I commiserate with the Filipinos in general who are mentally and emotionally numbed with just physically surviving their abject poverty. Democracy…’Powercracy’… Dictatorship are vague to them and essentially meant nothing. They will only shudder if ‘Communism” is mentioned becaused they were taught and told long ago without knowing it for themselves that that’s the worst form of government because it doesn’t believe in God and all others are acceptable) So the prayerful Gloria in photos [it doesn’t matter what’s really in her heart and mind and whether she cheated in the last elections] is ‘pwede na muna’.

Civil disobedience, active resistance, media campaign are the viable options left to the democratic segment of society. Passion for democracy, truth and justice will be the soul of the campaign against anti-democratic froces exemplified by Gloria. The filing a case option is worth trying still inspite of all its lack of judicial independence (as justices have sold out their independence to Gloria way back in 2001 in exchange for a continued term in office) for who knows they might just rebel like Lucifer of old from their goddess.

But like any other else in life, good and evil, Gloria will also pass. This is our consolation. This is a certainty.

  3. The administration is taking advantage of the people’s lack of interest in Charter Change. But as has been said before, the administration is quite organized and has the power and resources to do what they need to do to achieve their goals.

And as speculated before, it is the DILG’s Mr. Puno who is orchestrating this move. Wasn’t it what was also said before that he was specifically appointed to the DILG post just for this?

Look’s like we’re going to have a different form of government when this is over.

  4. I read that entry in the BnW about mr. Habito’s yahoo group
where one was led to sign a sheet, just because they said it is for change.

They have not only been stealthy as in the previous blog…

they are now desperate and will do anything by all means necessary…

    another thing…
if they think the senate will allow itself to disappear.
They should think again….they might even lose Lito Lapid’s support if they continue with this tact.

  5. What would you expect from people that supports a
person with no moral ascendancy, a person who
supports a liar and a cheater is also a liar and a cheat.

We don’t need to listen, it’s a waste of time
listening or giving attention to such losers
such as BUNYETA, ERMITANYO, DEFENSOR et al.

Ang BAHO nyo, puro KASINUNGALINGAN lumalabas sa
bibig niyo. KAYA nagkakaPINGOT-PINGOT ang LABI ni
    MIKE DEFENSOR kaka SINUNGALING !!!

  6. To answer first ADB..

As i will continue to say let the pieces fall as they may..

Lets get back to the point of the issue did he leave or not, who cares he came back..

Is it fake maybe did the DFA first issue fake ones.. Someone uses the real ones for people requiring fake documents like “Lacsons Friend in the US traveling on Fake documents”

We dont know lets see what the courts get.. Lacson has filled a case lets see it work.

In the case with mutiple different Signature campaigns there probably are, Was not the B&W group doing one a one stage.. But no one signed it as no one is behind them..

We can go back to the elections where FPJ camp could not get enough supporters to be at every polling station, If they cannot get people there then how could they run a country first and second, they obviously did not have the support that they say they had..

I Looked at your attacks on KARL, all he said was you have moderation on.. So does everyone else.. Dont get soooo annoyed.

I also saw you say you were a normal Filipino, Thirty years outside this country makes you normal??

In the case with the Rape victim the Lawyers for her complain about the judge when he does what they want they then say it will delay they case too much, Then why make the remark in the first place.. You cannot have it both ways..

We all do need to do what bong suggested, Get down to work and make it work.. Yelling and screaming is getting no one anywhere..

Dinky and her “NON PROTEST” once again cant have it both ways either it is a protest and and illegal assembly of people or it is not.. You cannot have a silent protest with out protesting… Or then all you would have is silence.. Now that would be good..

Did you see her on TV ANC the protester from the Marcos years put every one where they belong.
    “This is not Martial Law”
“The police are not like martial Law”
“He would not help Dinky destroy the Country”
“We should all work for a Future”

Anyhow.. Im going back to work for my future..

You can sit in your Ivory castle in France above the Burning cars and buildings.. FREEDOM?

  7. Sleeping with who wrote “Lets get back to the point of the issue did he leave or not, who cares he came back..”.

I see a problem with this kind of reasoning. You see, under oath Garcillano claimed that he never left the country. So if you accept that he left, then he definitely told a lie under oath. So everything else that he said is in question. “I did not help GMA”, “I never had a hand in cheating”.

  8. He lied in that comment or did he we don’t know yet..

That is why there is a court system..

If he did put him in jail…

And who ever helped him change the passport..

It is up to the LAW to dish out the punishment..

  9. Jon we know in our hearts they all cheated on some level…

    Let us be honest.. YES..

If GMA cheated that well that she had everyone in her pocket then so be it, the opposition had no plan to run this country other than to empty the coffers into their pockets, LIKE THEY DID THE TIME BEFORE..

Lacson as the top police officer turned his back while he knew ESTRADA was taking bribes and trying to bribe him.. Now that is as bad as taking the money..

All it means is he did not have a price he was so cheap..

  10. Don’t be so hard on the DFA. Those defects that the BSP discovered are beyond the technical capacity of DFA to detect.

The first Garci passport was real because he had no reason to make it “baklas”. Garci was issued a second passport because his first passport had expired.

The BSP finding showed what happened to the authentic passport after it was issued by DFA.

There are syndicates that specialize in tampering passports. It is good money because of he volume of overseas workers who for some reason or another require their services. If you go to Libertad, near the DFA passport office, they have sales agents hanging around there.

Passports can be tampered in a matter of hours.

Singapore is one of several hubs that is being watched by anti-terror organizations. Immigration and airline transfer desk employees are being trained by western documents experts to detect fake pasports and visas.

So Garci’s faked passport must have been a masterpiece to have fooled Singapore immigration and airline employees who are equipped with ultra-violet lights, magnifying glasses and all that. Or mayne it was another lazy and careless day in that airport because there were so many defects in the passport.

Some of the defects found by the BSP could have been detected by outside agencies but others defects are things only the BSP knows about.

  11. Notice also the B&W group is meant to be getting the people involved by not having protests at Star Bucks because it was too expensive..

Now they change the time to earlier in the day there can be only two reasons for that, they want the non working people, or they really have no idea?

What time do offices close on a friday?

NOT 3:30.. oh that’s right Dinky is unemployed…

I wonder why she cannot get a job? Disliked by half the population and the other half want someone who could actually put in a days work..

  12. I was moderated out by SASSY.

I posted a one sentence comment on her column “What are opinion writers for?”

I asked her, “Why so defensive, Sassy?”

I must confess I half-expected the question to be moderated out. But the other masochistic half of me expected some sort of verbal abuse from her.

Oh well, there’s a thin line between between being sassy and being a ….

  13. Jon we know in our hearts they all cheated on some level…

    Let us be honest.. YES..

If GMA cheated that well that she had everyone in her pocket then so be it,

nice trick, but it was GMA who was caught stealing the elections, not FPJ, roco, lacson or eddie Villanueva.

And let’s not to forget to mention the other corruption issues like Jose Pidal, the fertilizer funds scam, road user’s tax scam etc.

the opposition had no plan to run this country other than to empty the coffers into their pockets, LIKE THEY DID THE TIME BEFORE..

Sorry, but the only people who did the emptying of coffers and corrupted every institution after edsa dos came from this administration was from this administration, led by arroyo’s imelda aka jose pidal.

and to claim na the opposition led by FPJ, roco, lacson and eddie v. were planning to do the same without proof is just mudslinging at it’s worst.

Lacson as the top police officer turned his back while he knew ESTRADA was taking bribes and trying to bribe him.. Now that is as bad as taking the money..

you could have said the same thing about bunye, mike defensor, raul gonzales, the CBCP and others.

at least lacson like angie reyes and the rest of the military at that time, withdrew their support from erap on 2001.

the difference though is that at least erap is now under arrest. so when are you going to ask for ARroyo and Pidal’s arrest too, sleeping w/ who? 😉

  15. Please bear with me for going off-topic and fast forward. The moment we all waiting for will eventually come,i.e., GMA’s end. And I’m bringing this issue up this early lest euphoria will all make us forget. And I’m talking about RECKONING. There should be RECKONING for all concerned. Unline the past two EDSA’s, this time let us make sure there will be RECKONING for these people who now are helping propping up GMA’s illegitimate rule: to name a few— Mike Defensor, Ed Ermita, Bunye, Garci of course, Esperon, Puno, the ex-generals in the cabinet, the Pinedas, Iggy Arroyo, Pichay, Nograles, Lagman, Villafuerte, Andaya, Abalos, Atienza and many others… Can they be prosecuted of ” CRIMES AGAINST THE STATE?” If nothing of this sort will happen, then we will all just be starting towards perhaps another regime of the next Marcos or Erap or GMA.

  16. What you claim that the FPJ party did not make promises to businessmen that if they helped with the election they would get a contract..

johnmarzan AS I WILL SAY AGAIN..

OPEN ALL THE BANK ACCOUNTS LET US SEE THE TRUTH..

Let us see the money trails which we all know exist on both sides it is the only way to make you believe and me believe each others stories..

We know the Pork barrel is pocket money for the congressmen and senators.. Let us see who is working for the country and who is not..

  17. re. #13, manuelbuencamino

she is very defensive, isn’t she? i’m just wondering why she has to be so sarcastic in her replies to comments that disagree with her. and when you give her a taste of her own medicine, she gets angry and lashes back at you with personal attacks or bans you from commenting on her site.

    menopause na yata ang mare.

  18. And i do like your comment “institution after edsa dos ”

why would that be because ALL the time before it has been done but you dont want to own up to the mistakes of the past..

Too change we have to look to the past and not hide it.

The only way to expose it all is to open the bank accounts and make them take responsibility for what they have done in the past and going to do in the future..

Over throwing the government will not solve it..

New Laws such as the bank account one proposed by Lacson and the implementation of all others, including the Wire tapping law..

That will actually solve it all..

All Garci has to do is say yes that is my wife and me on that tape..

Then Implement the Law no more Senate, or Congress..

  19. sleeping, the reason it’s earlier is that if someone gets arrested, there’s a better chance to reach the fiscals and night courts while they’re still in the office. it’s a sensible enough precaution.

  20. Sleeping with who, please check where you stand.

“we know in our hearts they all cheated on some level…If GMA cheated that well that she had everyone in her pocket then so be it”. You don’t find anything wrong with that? No feeling of disgust?

  21. On the Subic Rape Case Judge’s inhibition I quote Kruschev;
“I want our boys to start acting as if they have balls!!”
from the movie “Enemy at the Gates”

  22. John,

I think you will find that Ping Lacson RESIGNED and did not “withdraw his support” a la Angie Reyes and the horrible cops in Gloria’s jueteng pay.

There is a world of difference.

When he was being confronted in his office by a police sector loyal to the Arroyos, Ping Lacson who was being asked to MUTINY along with them, instead tendered his resignation – he couldn’t very well have countered the MUTINEERS with fire for fire because the latter outnumbered him and his troops. He preferred to do the honorable thing to do for a military trained police officer: RESIGN.

  23. MLQ3,

Sleeping should take his cause ‘opening all bank accounts’ to Malacanang.

When a leader, as illegitimus as one might be, starts something honorable or a good deed of the kind, Sleeping will find that people have a tendency to follow.

No one from the Arroyo family should be exempted.

  24. What you claim that the FPJ party did not make promises to businessmen that if they helped with the election they would get a contract..

I don’t have any info about what you’re talking about sleepy. and if that’s the only “evidence” you have against arroyo’s rival candidates, then you’re accusation that “everybody cheated anyway” is nothing but a blanket smear on every arroyo rival candidates.

johnmarzan AS I WILL SAY AGAIN..

OPEN ALL THE BANK ACCOUNTS LET US SEE THE TRUTH..

Let us see the money trails which we all know exist on both sides it is the only way to make you believe and me believe each others stories..

do we start with the pidal accounts and the lualhati foundation?

    and let’s open roco’s too?

or re-investigate victor corpus and blanquita pelaez’s accusation na lacson had 16 CITIBANK accounts to hide his money from narcopolitics? let’s check if corpus “evidence” matches up with the facts?

open up FPJ’s bank accounts too?

what about erap? but he’s already under arrest. at alam na natin yung mga bank accounts niya. besides he didn’t run in 2004.

and what about eddie v and eddie gil?

And i do like your comment “institution after edsa dos ”

why would that be because ALL the time before it has been done but you dont want to own up to the mistakes of the past..

Too change we have to look to the past and not hide it.

edsa dos was supposed to be about fighting corruption and criminality in the admin. edsa dos was supposed to usher in a better, less corrupt and more democratic gov’t than erap’s.

what we got instead is an admin more corrupt and more abusive than the one it replaced and a country less free in the process. she corrupted pretty much every institution including the AFP, COMELEC, SC, Congress, PNP, DOJ etc. ala marcos.

    thanks edsa dos!

besides, if you wanna go back and revisit the past, if you want to play that game, then the best person to compare GMA with is not erap, but the guy we ousted 20 years ago — MARCOS.

erap’s nothing compared to these two.

why would that be because ALL the time before it has been done but you dont want to own up to the mistakes of the past..

why don’t you own up to the bigger mistake that is edsa dos sleepy, which gave us GMA?

btw, i don’t consider erap’s election victory “a mistake”, sleepy, unless you don’t believe in democracy anymore.

because it was probably the cleanest presidential elections we’ve had — true democracy at work… even though i loathed erap and did not vote for him then. but i accepted that result kahit na hindi nanalo ang binoto ko na si roco.

The only way to expose it all is to open the bank accounts and make them take responsibility for what they have done in the past and going to do in the future..

Over throwing the government will not solve it..

let’s do that, sleepy. and let’s also determine how the arroyo admin spent our money during the election campaign, and how the money was used to bribe comelec officials, GLORIAGATE and pidal witnesses and other arroyo allies in congress to do arroyo’s bidding.

  25. Dont need to take it to the President if the Senators did their job we would have the law by now..

    But they dont want it..

If we all write letters to our senators to push this law forward do you think it will ever prosper..

If the President does it like you said ADB you would fight it.. They would say it is unconstitutional.. As the senate is meant to pass laws, Don’t you remember the EVAT Law, they gave her the power, then they wanted to retract it..

  26. MLQ3,

John is absolutely spot on. Sleeping wants to take up a cause “open bank accounts” then so be it! He must start with his idols and patrons in Malacanang.

What is really interesting here is Sleeping’s absolute lack of MORALS. Sleeping says ” So be it” after he acknowledges that Gloria Makapal-Arroyo might indeed have cheated!

Have you got no honor Sleeping or did you leave honor in bed? Perhaps you never had any?

Sleeping must BE TOLD that cheating in elections, looting of national coffers, breaching the constitution by leading a coup d’état and inciting military officers to commit MUTINY are horrendous offences against a republic and its people. To continue to break the law with impunity is against everything that is honorable.

That Sleeping may find that these Gloria actices should be “so be it” is incredibly low and downright stupid.

As to whether I am living in an ivory castle in France, is really none of Sleeping’s business; it ain’t my fault if he can’t afford a better living habitat than a pigsty; that he may live in a pigsty is probably where he and fatman Arroyo with his baby baboy son Mikey arroyo BELONG after all!

What Sleeping must realize is that a civilized and democracy-believing society is DUTY BOUND to BRING DOWN cheats, thieves, liars, criminals from their government pedestals. And if Sleeping is not one of those willing to BRING DOWN these family of political and thieving pigs because he believes that what they do is normal practice and should be accepted, he cannot ask for a better treatment when the time of reckoning comes .

I do hope Sleeping manages to understand these very, very basic moral principles of good governance.

Sleeping MUST GO back to sleep and ponder on these thoughts!

  27. MLQ3,

While there are scumbags in DFA too, we cannot pin the whole Garci fake fiasco down on DFA. They probably didn’t issue that dumb coward of an election manipulator the fake passport anyway.

I go with the opinion of M Buencamino on which agency has the technical capability to determine a fake passport or not.

  28. I live in reality every election has had cheating…

FPJ camp did not have the support it claimed it had..If it did there would have been watchers at every polling station, It did not have that..

I live here in the philippines and live the life every day in reality, not in Paris for 30 Years..

How can you think you really know what is happening with out walking the streets yourself. The UN does not make assumptions from their bases they get out into the streets and see what is happening. Hearing it from Dinky only gives you her perception of the actions here. MLQ3 also has his perceptions i have mine but you cannot claim to be more informed being in France. Especially for such a long time.

In the case with others who comment from HK and other places may have been here lately and have their views, which i can accept as their views.

    Mine are as such:
Since she has been in power they have tried to overthrow her and put back Estrada or someone else.
Since she has been in power the economy has stabilized and started to grow.
Since she has been in power they have tried to help others less fortunate.
Since in power she did not bow down to the US and pulled out troops from Iraq.
Since in power we look like we are getting more respect around the world, for being our nation.
The Philippines stood up at the UN and Announced some great ideas.
The Peso has started to grow and be stable.

Others have not been happy with some things like the Run after Tax Evaders, and other schemes. More People have been charged by the courts for Fraud, Graft and corruption than any other period.
This is not something they started to do in the last 6 years, but some have amassed 10’s of millions, over 10-20 Years.

The courts have made more progress on the Marcoses.
The government is starting to try to fix the imbalance in pays and benefits to the teachers, Doctors, nurses.

But once again some people don’t want this progress.

Just because a President was not educated does not mean we should not provide education.

Progress is slow but that is life, You cannot pay all teachers what they deserve today as the budget cannot do it. You look at the figures yourself.

Fact is we all have to work for a better country and have to accept change is coming it is just slow. And the only way we can speed it up is to work together to make it work.

You insult the military and others, they are trying to make a better life for themselves and others around them. They would perfer to help victims in the landslide than protect Manila.

But other want them to Protect manila and not help the country..

  29. Dear Sleeping

I know what and whom you don’t like but I still don’t know who you like.

    Do you like Gloria?

Do you want her to remain in power?

For how long? Until 2007? 2010? 2010 plus?

Just answer yes or no and please don’t explain your answer.

As for me, I can’t stand Gloria and I want her out of Malacanan now.

  30. MLQ3,

Sleeping hasn’t quite got it! He hasn’t understood what good governance is all about. He hasn’t understood that you cannot compromise on what is morally acceptable and what is NOT morally, let alone legally acceptable.

I also don’t know what he means by MY insulting (????) the military institution. He’s out of his mind! I am a strong supporter of the institution!

I don’t know what he means about THEY putting Erap back. Who’s they? Me? He’s out of his mind – he lacks sleep or what?

I don’t care to debate any issue with one who is prepared to COMPROMISE the rule of law where Gloria and her cabal of thieves, looters and mutinists are concerned.

Anyway, Sleeping can sleep, este, rant all he wants. He cannot change the fact that his idols in Malacanang committed attrocious, horrendous criminal acts against the Republic, agains the Constitution and against our republican institutions by subverting the military and by corrupting everybody that came their way.

No ifs, no buts. Gloria and her cabal MUST BE TRIED for those crimes. Sleeping may accompany them to the dock – that’s his prerogative – and when the time comes for reckoning, he may weep with them but really, that is his business whether he weeps or not for his idols.

And for Sleeping, an umpteenth and last rejoinder:

“What Sleeping must realize is that a civilized and democracy-believing society is DUTY BOUND to BRING DOWN cheats, thieves, liars, criminals from their government pedestals.

I do hope Sleeping manages to understand these very, very basic moral principles of good governance.”

  31. MLQ3,

Amazing to read about the dwarf giraffes. Btw, where is Calauit?

Wonder if there Ms Tan’s got any pics.

The office next to where I work is the WWF office here. I will ask one of the staffers if they’ve heard of the Philippine dwarf giraffes.

  32. So you work near the Brussels WWF office…(never been there but I love to search for my roots there)

BTW I never told you that that my great grand father, the grand father of my mother is Belgian….his surname is Cauwenbergh ( I dnt even know the correct spelling)

If ever you crossed paths with any of the Cauwenberghs ask for someone who lived in the Philippines in the early twentieth century.

  33. MLQ3,

A personal message for our knight in shining armor:

Hey Karl, no sweat! A pleasure to support you.

Really? Kaya pala si Charrie is mestiza-looking…. may Flemmish blood ka pala!

    Yes, on Avenue Tervuren exactly.

You should make bisita to your relatives here. Tell Charrie and Garec they should visit too.

  34. off-topic, i just want to commend mlq for allowing his blog to be a forum of opposing views..without putting a commentor down and for always respecting someone else’s dissenting views on issues, i’ve been to sassy lawyer’s and i cannot say the same for her, she takes things on a personal level and she resorts to snobbery when cornered.

  35. off-topic, i just want to commend mlq for allowing his blog to be a forum of opposing views..without putting a commentor down and for always respecting someone else’s dissenting views on issues, i’ve been to SL’s and i cannot say the same for her, she takes things on a personal level and she resorts to snobbery when cornered.

  36. Red hat for a cardinal indeed, eh!

Hmmmm… hope the new cardinal doesn’t get labeled a communist, a left-winger, a seditionist, a rebel, an oppositionist, etc. when he leads a huge crowd of followers in Manila towards Malacanang (I mean, towards a church near Malacanang).

  37. in the blink of an eye, because of the success of the saf troopers that responded to the bicutan siege, the whole world has forgotten that the 23 inmates that had been killed in the clash are all part of a notorious group that has been kidnaping and beheading other people — policemen, military men, innocent civilians — for almost three decades.

who’s the human rights violator? the inmates had it coming, if you ask me. but this being the philippines, of course our sense of justice is twisted.

okay, the saf troopers should have let all the inmates run free to bomb the metropolis and kidnap another foreigner couple and keep them hostage for about two years and then rape the wife regularly in the meantime, and then in the eventual rescue operation, the man will be killed and the wife, who survives, will write yet another book about her ordeal, entitled “Her enemies are now also mine.”

and perhaps if this was what happened, it’s the special action force that gets applauded and awarded medals, and maybe someone else who gets slapped with a human rights violation case, like, say, the engineer who built the darned bjmp building where the standoff happened.

    just exploring the possibilities.

  38. Anna,

I would love to go there ,but right now I can’t afford.(financially) Maybe eventually….

    Thanks for the invite!….

    MLQ3,
    I salute you too!

  39. thanks mlq3 for the link.

sure enough, cardinal rosales won’t be labeled as whatever “red” means to mrs. arroyo because, it has been clear with the insignia of the cardinal that he will be “green” for all it’s worth. but hopefully, with a lot of divine interventions, himala ang pag-asa.

oh, let us do our duty this saturday, let us not just pay our homeowner’s monthly due but also show some intelligent brand of filibustering at the barangay assembly.

let all those who opposes chacha, exposes it all out and hopefully, there’s more concrete proposal. think of what sen. ting paterno says when he quits concom and that’s the gist of the story.

  40. Guys all this blog fighting is nice but it all comes down to one thing and that is navigating the intricate path of the law. Time and again she have shown that she won in every legal battle she faced.(maybe she owns every balls and clit in our justice system but we must not lose faith we must assume that not everyone in government is selfish and corrupt. )

GMA is in power because there is no legal way of removing her. The only way she’ll be out of there is by either being totally disabled or dead. The opposition should try a million times harder to prove and persuade the shit head in congress to support the next impeachment so we can have closure on this.

As for the Bicutan, It was unfair to be killed like that. That’s the reason we have laws and processes, they will eventually be sentenced to death. There were also other victims. The question should be, why they were killed? Are they hiding something?

Lastly, we should all value Human Life
    Physically, Morally and Spiritually.

  41. In observation of #34 re: sleeping with who

This is not against sleeping. There are things that people shared with you.

In reality every election has had cheating. Ate Glue cheated conspicuously in the Mindanao regions with 4 unrelated sources to support (1) Commissioner Garcillano did not dispute his comelec function in Mindanao, (2) the president admitted lapse of judgment of asking Garcilliano to protect her votes, (3) two military officers gagged by EO464 from testifying military’s involvement, (4) Namfrel’s final tally on 6/21/04 disclosed over 700,000 votes discrepancy against 6/20/04 official count in Mindanao alone. The president is leading a blatant example.

Since Ate Glue was in power, 65% wanted her out of the office. The majority likewise did not want Estrada to be back in that office. The palace intentionally focused Estrada for obvious reason. The Filipinos deserve a credible candidate and should not be limited to Ate Glue and Estrada.

Since Ate Glue was in power, the economy has stabilized primarily for two reasons, (1) increased remittances of OFWs to their loved ones which has nothing to do the economic program, (2) implementation of EVAT in compliance of IMF’s covenant. Since EVAT, prices and legislators kickbacks (pork barrel) started to grow while Filipinos are paying the burden.

Since Ate Glue was in power, she has the executive mandate to serve the people. That is already given.

Since Ate Glue was in power, she is expected to have independent foreign policy as provided in the constitution.

Since Ate Glue was in power, we did not look like getting respect especially if the international community downgraded your country status from free to partly free. Please see 2005 Freedom House issue.

Since Ate Glue diminished her status with the US and thus has increased recourse to UN like other countries with anti-US policy.

Yes, the peso appreciated in value and thanks to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). They have not forgotten to support their families.

Yes, the Filipinos can swallow to be happy and contented with whatever government program against corruption and tax evaders. It is a small token when the big fish are still getting scot-free. The rule of law is for ordinary Filipinos who paid the EVAT. Gen Garcia would not have been court-martialed if the US custom did not confiscate the loot.

Yes the courts have made more progress on Marcoses and then the palace tried to make a deal with Marcoses to the prejudice of the court. The court also decried the intrusion of the palace in Erap’s case for political accommodation. Let the court do its work since it is independent from the executive.

Yes the government is reacting to the brain drain of hot sectors involving nurses and teachers by adjusting the pay and benefits. But it is unconstitutional to apply government policy of six months approval that will shutdown workers small window of opportunity.

The Filipinos want progress. If Ate Glue can increase the pay and benefits in other professions, so much the better.

Here you are absolutely wrong. You don’t know your president. She was valedictorian, summa cum laude with masters and doctorate degree in economics and attended foreign graduate school. She is more educated than anyone of us. This is also the big irony. We have the premier rice hybrid institution in Laguna and the president is doctorate in economics with 35 billion pesos agrarian reform money at her disposal from recovered Marcos loot and yet she managed only to reduce these resources into a mockery of Philippines among the world’s top importer of rice. Political use of agriculture funds is corruption and did not benefit the farmers.

This is a better country if lead with president that can be respected by the majority and not stagnated in the issue of legitimacy. Let us work together starting with the highest in office so that rule of law prevails and doesn’t apply only to ordinary Filipinos.
