Dean is upset

In Philippine Commentary 2004 FPJ vs GMA by Dean Jorge Bocobo, Dean Jorge Bocobo points out the elimination of all science subjects in the the elementary level.

This is truly shocking. And I agree with Bocobo that “Makabayan” is a bullshit brainwashing subject of little use to kids.

At least Sec. de Jesus restored science in the high school level.

When I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, Filipino students when transplanted to the States, in the gradeschool and high school level proved better educated than their American peers. I myself know this because I studied briefly in the States for 3rd grade, and 4th grade, and then 7th to 11th grades. I had more “stock knowledge” than the American kids, and I was never a good student to begin with.

I shudder to think what the experience of Filipino kids, even from the private schools, today, would be like. Even back then, our science education was inferior: earth science and biology were marvels to me, because we idn’t study things on that level here. It can only have gotten worse.
